Day 11: Monday Mornings

Psalm 127:3 “Children are a blessing and a gift from the Lord.”

Monday mornings are slow in our house.  No preschool for the little one, no small group or meetings for me, only 1st grade for my biggie.  That means a lot of one on one time with Charlotte.  I’ll be honest, I don’t wake up thinking, “I can’t wait to play all day with Charlotte!”  The ‘doing side’ of my brain tells me to clean the dishes in the sink, make up all the beds, respond to those emails, and get some laundry started (and hopefully done!)  Then, this itty bitty person is handing me dolls and asking to play upstairs with her.  I think if I can get her started I’ll casually walk out and not return;)  She’s too smart for that.  She doesn’t care what I need to DO.  She only wants me to BE. BE with her, BE present, BE The Little Mermaid.

There is a time for work and a time for play.  Leaning into what the Holy Spirit prompts me to do at each moment is my only accurately true compass for knowing which direction to turn.  This morning, I set aside the ‘doing’ and chose to embrace the ‘being’.  Embrace the tiny human being that won’t stay small for long.  Embrace the play time.  Embrace the mess.  Embrace the moment.  day11-1day11-2day11-3day11-4day11-5day11-6day11-7day11-8day11-9day11-10

  1. Love this post…I cross stitched the following quote when Natalie was little and it now sits on a shelf in her kitchen.
“I hope my children look back on today and see a Mother who had time to play. There will be plenty of years for cleaning and cooking, but children grow up when we are not looking.
